Coronation Street viewers are predicting a surprising new romance for Betsy Swain with an older gentleman.

Betsy, portrayed by Sydney Martin, is the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and made her dramatic entrance onto the cobbles last year.

The soap revealed that Betsy was brought up by two mothers, Lisa and Becky (Amy Cudden). However, in late 2021, Becky tragically died off-screen after being struck by a car while on duty.

Since landing on the soap, Betsy has quickly found herself at the centre of several major storylines. Earlier this year, she was left devastated when her boyfriend Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) was killed off after being stabbed.

Still mourning, Betsy’s life took another tragic turn when she was shot in March by murderer Rob Donovan (Marc Bayliss), who at the time was holding Lisa and her girlfriend Carla Connor (Alison King) hostage, reports the Daily Star.
Last week marked Betsy’s 18th birthday – but the day was far from smooth sailing as she narrowly avoided being hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident, leaving her utterly shaken.
Adding to the drama, unbeknownst to Betsy, her supposedly deceased mum had turned up at Carla and Lisa’s home. Becky shocked Lisa by revealing that she had entered witness protection following a botched undercover operation.

Lisa was overwhelmed by the revelation, but furious that Becky had put her and Betsy through such an ordeal. When Becky requested to see Betsy, Lisa flatly refused.
In Monday’s episode (15 September), Betsy remained in the dark about her mum Becky, who once again tried to convince Lisa to let her see her daughter. Yet, amidst all the current drama on the cobbles, viewers are predicting a surprise romance between Betsy and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).

Fans will remember that Ryan moved in with his aunt Carla, Lisa, and Betsy last month. He and Betsy have since developed a close familial bond, with Betsy sharing details of her dramatic birthday last week with Ryan.
However, fans believe the pair might become more than just friends in an unexpected twist. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one viewer noted: “Betsy and Ryan getting very close.”
Another commented: “You know it crossed my mind watching it. I really hope they don’t make them become a thing but I could see where she could crush on him cos he’s so lovely.” A third agreed: “Yeah I thought that, it was more like they were gonna get together.” Another person wrote: “I knew that was coming.” A fifth simply stated: “Hope not!”
