Coronation Street fans say Tony Maudsley ‘hasn’t aged’ as he reveals past role on Brookside
Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has shared a throwback from his time on rival soap Brookside as the Channel 4 soap is set to return for a one-off special episode

Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley has taken a trip down memory lane, sharing a throwback from his Brookside days as the soap gears up for a one-off special episode.

Fondly referred to as Brookie, the popular Channel 4 soap aired from 1982 to 2003 and is set to return in a crossover episode with its successor, Hollyoaks, to mark its 30th anniversary.
The special episode, scheduled for October, will pay tribute to Brookside and its creator, Sir Phil Redmond, also known for penning Grange Hill.
The crossover will welcome back iconic Brookside characters to commemorate the milestone, including Ricky Tomlinson reprising his role as Bobby Grant and Sue Johnston returning as Sheila Grant.

Tony, 57, made his debut in Weatherfield as undertaker George in 2020, playing the son of Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd), and has since been embroiled in plenty of drama.
In August 2022, Georg was joined by his sister, Glenda (Jodie Prenger), and he even found love with local favourite Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver), reports the Liverpool Echo.
However, their romance was short-lived after she left him earlier this year, departing the cobbles for a new life in Thailand following the death of her sister, Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh).
Prior to joining the cast of the ITV soap, Tony featured in the hit sitcom Benidorm as hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke from 2011 to 2018.

The soap legend has also graced screens in an extensive array of television programmes including New Tricks, Holby City, Poirot, Doc Martin, The Bill and countless others. Tony additionally portrayed Grawp in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Back in 1988, Tony landed on Brookside as an extra and recently reminisced about his stint on the Channel 4 drama by sharing a throwback snap with his X (formerly Twitter) followers.
He wrote alongside the picture: “When I was an extra on Brookside. About 1988.”
Supporters were quick to express their astonishment at Tony’s Brookside cameo, with one fan exclaiming: “No way”, whilst another simply responded: “Ohh.”

“Love it! You haven’t changed a bit”, declared one admirer as another added: “Little did you know then what was ahead of you Tony now a Corrie legend #Corrie.”
Meanwhile, one Brookside enthusiast questioned: “Did you play a kid called bumper?”, whilst another also wondered: “Was that your first tv?”.
