‘Marshals’ trailer hints major ‘Yellowstone’ character gets killed off in Kayce Dutton spinoff
Kayce Dutton is back, and he appears to be alone.
Luke Grimes, who became a fan favorite while portraying the youngest biological son of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton in “Yellowstone,” gave viewers a first look at Kayce in action in the first trailer for “Marshals.”
Released on Friday, the sneak peek at the upcoming CBS series showed Grimes’ Kayce sleeping alone after suffering an unspecified tragedy. He is also shown visiting someone’s grave.
The last time fans saw Kayce was during the series finale of “Yellowstone” in Dec. 2024. He had sold off the Dutton family’s Montana ranch and was looking forward to embracing a fresh start with his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).
Asbille’s Monica, however, was mysteriously absent from the newly released “Marshals” trailer, while Absille’s name has been notably missing from the official cast list for the latest “Yellowstone” spinoff.
“Yellowstone is gone, same for most of my family,” Kayce says in one cryptic scene from the trailer. “As for vengeance, the day is still young.”

Meanwhile, “Yellowstone” stars Gil Birmingham (Chief Thomas Rainwater) and Mo Brings Plenty (Mo) have been confirmed to be returning alongside Grimes for “Marshals.”
The Post has reached out to Asbille’s reps for comment.
Scheduled to premiere on CBS on March 1, “Marshals” will follow Grimes’ Kayce as he joins a specialized group of US Marshals tasked with protecting Montana.
