Corrie star seems to be ‘turned away’ from Ricky Hatton funeral as celebs mourn

Ricky Hatton’s funeral took place on Friday 10 October with a procession through the streets of Manchester as mourners, including his celebrity friends, paid their respects to the boxing icon

A Corrie actor appeared to be turned away from Ricky Hatton’s funeral.

Former ITV star Steven Arnold arrived at the boxer’s funeral on Friday 10 October as mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the sporting icon. The service took place at Manchester Cathedral and a number of celebrities from television, music and sport were invited.

Hatton, who was discovered dead at his home aged 46 last month, was amongst Britain’s most iconic boxers and a procession through Manchester took place in his memory, while a ceremony was held at the city’s cathedral to celebrate his life later on.

After the service, there was a visit to the Etihad Stadium, home to Hatton’s adored Manchester City, reports the Express. As attendees arrived for the service, security personnel were stationed at the entrance conducting checks.

Footage broadcast on Sky News appeared to show former Coronation Street star Steven Arnold, who portrayed Ashley Peacock in the soap, being halted at the door while speaking with several security staff who had what seemed to be guest list.

It remains uncertain whether he was ultimately refused entry, but viewers took to social media to speculate what happened. “Did we just see Ashley from Coronation Street get turned away from the funeral on Sky News?” one user wrote on X/Twitter as another responded: “That’s definitely what happened, wasn’t it.”

Arnold is best known for starring in Coronation Street for 15 years from 1995 to 2010.

Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher were amongst those seen paying their respects at Hatton’s service. A host of boxing greats, including Tyson Fury, Barry McGuigan and Amir Khan were also in attendance.

During the funeral, Khan said: “He was a fantastic fighter, one of the best out there. He obviously inspired so many fighters like us. He’ll be definitely remembered as one of the greatest to come out of Britain. Very jolly, very fun, a very respected person and very nice. He was always a people’s champion.”

“It’s great to be here to see so many of the boxing community come together to show our respect. Hundreds on the streets – that shows he was a popular man.”
