DS Lisa Swain is quite rightly at the end of her tether in our brand new spoiler video. While the Coronation Street copper is still reeling from the revelation that her dead wife, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) isn’t actually dead, she’s hit with the news that her daughter, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) has been arrested!

The lives of all members of the Connor-Swain clan have been completely turned upside down with the re-emergence of Becky, who Lisa and Betsy originally believed had died in the line of duty four years ago.

Her explanation for playing dead? She’d been working undercover in a bid to bring a criminal gang down from the inside, though had been discovered. With hers and her families lives in jeopardy, Becky claims she did what she had to do.

With DI Costello (Daon Broni) identifying another woman’s body as Becky, she faked her death and disappeared to Spain.

Lisa was furious, firstly for Becky putting their lives at risk and secondly for not considering another way that didn’t involve her pretending to be dead, thereby avoiding putting both Lisa and Betsy through utter hell.

Greatly concerned on the impact this would have on their daughter, Lisa decided Betsy should be kept in the dark, though an innocent encounter between Betsy and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) that Becky mistook for a retaliation attack from the gang lead her to reveal herself.

Quickly making an enemy of Lisa’s new fiancée Carla Connor (Alison King), Becky, with the help of Costello has managed to finagle her way back into the family, though all of that is set to change next week, as Costello decides she needs to disappear again.

With Carla in Ireland, Becky spots a chance to strengthen her relationship with her ex-wife and daughter, when Betsy convinces her parents to model some of her designs for a college project.

As the three re-bond, Becky is horrified when Betsy uploads footage of them to social media.

‘One of Becky’s strategies to soften Lisa and to ingratiate herself back into her family is to make them laugh. To clown for them and make them giggle, and to bring the lightness and the playfulness to the relationship. And it’s born out of that, they all let their guards down, they all have a really good laugh together, and Betsy innocently takes a video.

‘It does put Becky in a certain amount of danger, but I also think that Becky isn’t above slightly manipulating her daughter into thinking that maybe she’s made a bigger problem than she actually has.

‘I don’t think it’s great that Becky’s image is out there, it compromises her, but it’s also weirdly useful for her to be able to play on Betsy and Lisa’s guilt a bit. Her default action is to manipulate people; she plays the room that she’s in.

‘And if there is a sense that people are feeling guilty for having dropped her in it then, no doubt, she is going to, some extent, take advantage of that,’ Amy said on the incident.

Potentially more horrified than Becky is Costello, who immediately threatens Becky. Though she tells him to back off, he’s not deterred from his mission to send her back to Spain, and engineers Betsy’s arrest for damaging a police car, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

With Lisa utterly horrified at the situation she’s found her daughter in, she makes it clear that she holds Becky responsible, with the upset caused following her ‘resurrection’ having shaken Betsy to the core.

Will Lisa learn of Costello’s machinations? Can either of Betsy’s mums save her from the cells?
