EastEnders ‘confirms’ imminent return for Ben Mitchell after shock death
There was a shock death in EastEnders tonight, as Jonno Highway suffered a deadly heart attack in his son Callum’s flat.
Earlier this year it was confirmed Ben Mitchell and Stuart Highway would be returning for the funeral, and now his death has played out on screens – it doesn’t look like their return is too far away… Fans were under the assumption that Jonno would die off screen. Spoilers revealed Jonno would suffer a heart attack, but not that it would be deadly.

As his son Callum ran out to get help, in tonight’s episode Jonno told Johnny that he had a message for son, using his last breath to tell him that he was “ashamed” of him.
Johnny was left in shock, and kept the secret from Callum, and told him he’d asked for his forgiveness instead. But how long will he be able to keep it a secret?
“I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel,” Callum said when he found out his dad had passed. “He weren’t all bad, you know? He used to have a little kick about with us in the park. He’d call me his little man, let me have sips from his pint, and lift me up to throw the darts.”
“He asked me for help and I turned my back on him,” Callum said as he previously refused to help him for money. “I just cut him off without second thought, how selfish is that?” he questioned. All the while, Johnny was trying to console Callum for his feelings, knowing what Jonno’s cruel final words were.
A grieving Callum then made a move for Johnny. However, Johnny tried to stop him, thinking he was acting out of grief. Callum denied this however, as he told Johnny it was what he wanted.
The two then shared a passionate kiss – but as we know Ben’s return is around the corner, what will happen if/when he finds out?
Earlier this year, EastEnders revealed that Max Bowden would be reprising his role as Ben Mitchell in autumn for Jonno’s funeral, and although the exact date hasn’t been confirmed – but as Jonno’s death has now played out, we can assume it’s very soon. Ricky Champ, who plays Stuart Highway, will also be returning for his fathers funeral.
Earlier this year, the BBC soap revealed: “Ben Mitchell and Stuart Highway return to Walford as the Highways prepare to say goodbye to Jonno, but with Callum having recently cheated with Johnny, and with those feelings expected to grow, Ben may not be revisiting the happy family he left behind…
“Whilst both characters are only back for a short stint as Ben is on day release from Prison, and Stuart has a life away from the Square with wife Raine, you’d think that all things would be smooth sailing, but this is Walford, and a lot can happen in a short amount of time…”
