Byker Grove icon joins Coronation Street as part of soap’s dark Todd Grimshaw storyline
A BYKER Grove icon has joined Coronation Street as part of the soap’s dark domestic abuse storyline.
Actor turned presenter Andrew Hayden-Smith has joined the soap in a guest role as Todd’s life takes a dark turn under the increasing control of boyfriend Theo.
Andrew will play a business associate of Theo’s who ends up spending the night with him as part of Theo’s sick games.
Revealing his role on the cobbles, Andrew posted a picture of him in front of the Rovers adding: “Off to Weatherfield… BRB 👋 Catch me on the cobbles as Pete Lang soon!”
Viewers know that Todd is terrified he has bowel cancer but has been unable to confide in unhinged Theo.
Next week while Todd is waiting for his bowel cancer test results, he doesn’t feel able to tell Theo about any of it.
Instead he decides it’s time to plan his own funeral just in case the worst happens.
But that causes concern for George Shuttleworth, who takes advice from Christina Boyd and then snoops through Todd’s emails.
Finding out that Todd has a hospital appointment, George wastes no time in going straight there and finding Todd just as the doctor arrives with his results.
Meanwhile Theo, who fans now know has been an abuser in past secret relationships, becomes increasingly sure that Todd is hiding something.
And he decides that he should teach him a lesson.
Passing up on a business meeting with Pete and Gary Windass, Theo goes to have it out with Billy suspecting he knows what’s going on.
Theo then decides to get drunk and have a night out.
The next day when Todd returns home having stayed with Billy, he swears nothing happened between them – but then Pete emerges in a dressing gown.
Has Theo cheated on Todd with Pete? Or is it another of his sick games?
Actor Andrew has previously appeared in Hollyoaks as well as his main role in Byker Grove where he played Ben Carter between 1996 and 2003.
