Coronation Street’s Asha Alahan has been struggling recently but fans are certain someone dear to the youngster is making a comeback

Coronation Street could be welcoming back a former cobbles legend in a shock Asha Alahan twist, according to fans.

Asha, played by Tanisha Gorey, has been a staple on the soap since her on-screen birth in 2009. As the daughter of Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Sunita (Shobna Gulati), Asha has won over the hearts of viewers.

She’s also been at the centre of numerous major storylines. From battling body image issues to training to become a paramedic, her stint in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.

Especially in the past few weeks, as in September, Asha was a victim of a vile racist attack from a drunk woman, Naomi, who Asha was trying to help while on shift.

The ordeal has affected Asha’s mental health, and she has since spiralled. Things only got worse for Asha when stepmum Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) tried to get revenge on Naomi, only for it to backfire.

And this week, the soap aired a heartbreaking twist when Asha ended up overdosing. In Monday’s episode (October 5), Asha was spotted passed out on a bench.

She was later sent to hospital and regained consciousness but there, it was revealed that Asha had taken a load of pills, as well as booze, causing her to overdose.

Now, with things looking to get worse for Asha, fans reckon the soap could bring back someone dear to Asha. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have predicted the return of her mum Sunita, in the form of a hallucination.

“I think Asha is going to hallucinate Sunita. Like when Seb returned this year,” mused one person, referring to Abi Webster (Sally Carman) hallucinating her dead son Seb (Harry Visinoni).

Another agreed: “Sunita’s return looms.” A third chimed in: “Honestly this would be so beautiful and epic.” Echoing their thoughts, someone else mused: “I thought this too that a Sunita ghost will appear. We’ve had a few recently.”

Viewers will recall that Sunita made her first appearance way back in 2001. As the wife of show alum Dev and mum of twins Aadi and Asha, Sunita became a hit with viewers.

But in 2013, and after 12 years on the iconic cobbles, Sunita was killed off from the soap in a horrific fire at the Rovers Return pub.
