Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd reveals Strictly ‘ban’ for one specific reason
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has opened up about appearing on reality shows away from the ITV soap, ruling out Strictly Come Dancing
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed the genuine reason viewers will never witness him showing off his moves on Strictly Come Dancing.
The actor, who has portrayed David Platt on the ITV soap since 2000, confessed he’d be keen on numerous reality TV opportunities, but the glamorous ballroom programme is completely out of bounds due to television rivalries.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star at the National Television Awards, Jack revealed: “I wouldn’t ever want to do Dancing On Ice, but that’s finished now. But Strictly Come Dancing no, that’s on BBC, you have to leave ITV for that.”
This means audiences who had wished to witness the soap star trading the cobbles for a cha-cha will be left gutted.

However, Jack says his allegiance to ITV, and the reality that Strictly broadcasts on ‘rival’ territory, keeps him firmly rooted in Weatherfield, reports the Daily Star.
Jack isn’t the sole Corrie star who’s encountered the BBC/ITV conflict.
Previously, soap darlings have been forced to depart the Street to participate in Strictly, with stars like Catherine Tyldesley (Eva Price) and Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) departing before slipping into their sequins.
For established cast members like Jack, the choice to remain faithful to Corrie means the glitterball aspiration is completely ruled out.
The actor has emerged as one of the soap’s most familiar faces throughout his 25 years on the cobbles, with David Platt positioned at the heart of some of the programme’s most explosive storylines, from heartbreaking family bereavements to jaw-dropping villain schemes.
While Jack concedes that Strictly is off the table, he hasn’t dismissed other opportunities when the timing is right.
However, his current focus remains on his life in Weatherfield, where his character continues to be a hit with fans.
Jack expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received from dedicated Corrie viewers over the years and is content to continue entertaining fans from the cobbles, even if it means missing out on sequins, samba and spray tans.
