EastEnders fans are convinced a returning character is about to make a dramatic comeback to Walford.

The soap has seen many a character make a surprise appearance on the Square after some time away. After watching some leaked footage from the Elstree set, viewers seem sure that another member of the Mitchell family is about to return to EastEnders.

On our EastEnders forum, one eagle-eyed fan said they spotted a blonde woman in a cream coat resembling actor Kim Medcalf, who played Sam Mitchell on the BBC One soap.

Sam last appeared on the Square in January 2024, with the door left open for a potential return.

Digital Spy reached out to EastEnders but the soap declined to comment on whether Medcalf is really returning.

Meanwhile, fans are enthusiastic about Sam’s unconfirmed return, with one person noting that the Mitchells are lacking a “strong female” character.

“This is AMAZING if it’s true and I want to her to stay long term not just a stint,” they wrote.

“The Mitchells need that strong female that it’s been lacking. I also want to see her reunite with Zoe and clash with Nicola too.”

“I suppose it could be her. The photo’s not clear enough to convince me,” someone else wrote. “It’d be nice if it was though.”

“Definitely looks like Kim,” a third person noted, while a fourth viewers suggested the mystery star could be another blonde EastEnders actor, including Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy Beale.

“It’s like back to the future on EastEnders now,” a fifth fan joked, presumably referring to the recent brief return of Max Branning, among others.

The soap has been welcoming a host of past stars in recent scenes, including Jake Wood as Max, and will see Max Bowden reprise the role of Ben Mitchell in scenes airing today.
