While it seemed as though love was on the cards for Penny and Vinny, things will cool off in upcoming scenes after Penny opens up about the kiss to Gina.

In scenes set to air on Wednesday, 7 January, Gina has moved in with Penny and presses her new flatmate for information about her festive romance.

After Gina comes clean to Penny, telling her that she saw her with Vinny on New Year’s Eve, Penny insists it was a one off.

“Penny and Vinny have both been unlucky in love, but on New Year’s Eve they shared a surprise kiss!” says our insider.

“Gina spied the pair getting closer, but Penny makes it clear to her new flatmate that this secret smooch won’t mark the start of a new romance. But is there really no future for her and Vinny?”

Last year, Vinny actor Shiv Jalota told Digital Spy about a new storyline in the works for Vinny, saying: “There’s some exciting stuff for Vinny.”

“I’ve been there for like, six years. I’ve been very fortunate. Ben [Wadey, executive producer of EastEnders] has given me a beautiful storyline that I can’t give away.”

“It’s gonna cause a lot of drama with Suki and the Panesars,” he added, confirming that Vinny is going to “fight for what he wants”.

“It’s exciting. Come November, there’s a lot of stuff for Vinny.”

The actor also teased a new romance for Vinny, saying “There’s a lot coming up for him. Maybe a partner, let’s see.”
