EastEnders Vicki Fowler star reveals ‘massive part’ of making Joel Marshall story ‘work’

EastEnders Vicki Fowler star has revealed what was a ‘massive part’ of making the acclaimed Joel Marshall story ‘work’.

Alice Haig joined the BBC soap as Vicki Fowler earlier in the year, stepping into the shoes previously filled by Scarlett Alice Johnson.

The character’s departure storyline in 2004 saw Vicki heading down under to Australia, where she was running a bar with her long-time partner Spencer Moon.

Vicki returned to Albert Square for Martin Fowler’s funeral, and her boyfriend Ross Marshall along with his son Joel accompanied her.

People soon realized that Joel was troubled when his father had to pay $50,000 to an Australian family after Joel upskirted a pupil in his class.

After several months of being misogynistic and a bad influence to Tommy Moon, Joel punched Vicki to the ground and filmed her struggling to get up after she called him out for showing his classmates an explicit video.

The aftermath of the incident eventually led to Joel’s arrest after Ross turned him into the police upon learning Vicki suffered a collapsed lung and a broken arm.

Ross turned Joel in, but his action still shocked Vicki when she learned that her partner continued to support his son despite everything he had done. Ross’s support for Joel caused Vicki to throw him out of No. 43.

Sharon Watts and Kathy Beale planned and gave Vicki a surprise trip away from Walford on Thursday (October 16), but Vicki kept focusing on Ross the whole time.

While this was happening Harvery Monroe offered Ross a place to stay having spent the night sleeping rough.

Since Vicki doesn’t know about Harvey’s gesture, viewers will have to wait to see what direction the storyline takes next.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Alice shared a video of the EastEnders hair and make-up team applying her injuries for the scenes where she was in hospital.

A number of stylists took their time to make sure the actress was ready for the heartbreaking scenes while she sat in a chair.

Alice captioned the post: “Huge shout out to the amazing hair and make up team @bbceastenders. Thank you @sophiescarlettroberts especially.

“The attention to detail and commitment to getting these injuries right was such a massive part making this powerful story work.”

Replying to the post, Joel actor Max Murray said: “Scarily good.”

The rest of the comments section saw EastEnders fans praising Alice for her hard work in recent months on the complex storyline.
