Former EastEnders star seeking something ‘completely different’ in career update months after exit

A former EastEnders star has revealed that they’re seeking something ‘completely different’ in a career update several months on from their exit.

A number of stars have left the BBC soap in recent months, with it confirmed last week that Junior Knight’s Micah Balfou is the latest actor to be saying goodbye to Walford.

Micah was introduced to the soap in May last year as Junior, the long-lost son of Colin Salmon’s George Knight, most known for having an affair with his dad’s ex Cindy Beale.

Last year’s Christmas Day episode was dedicated to the affair being exposed in the Queen Vic, with Cindy attacked with a shovel by Kathy Beale over it.

Confirming the news, a BBC spokesperson said: “We can confirm Micah will be leaving EastEnders later this year, we wish him all the best for the future.”

Also leaving the soap in the coming months is Molly Rainford and Bobby Brazier, who play Anna Knight and Freddie Slater respectively.

In what’s been a turbulent year for EastEnders, the first major exit arrived when James Bye’s Martin Fowler died in an explosion in the Queen Vic during February’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The next big exits arrived in April as Natalie Cassidy departed the soap after three decades of playing Sonia Fowler on and off, alongside her onscreen sister Patsy Palmer, who played Bianca Jackson.

While last month saw Lacey Turner’s Stacey Slater leave Walford for Brazil after being left stunned by the return of Jake Wood’s Jack Branning.

Shortly after Ben Wadey replaced Chris Clenshaw as the series’ Executive Producer, viewers were stunned to see Bernie Taylor, played by Clair Norris, and Matthew James Morrison’s Felix Baker, leave in dramatic fashion.

With Clair playing cafe worker Bernie since 2017, the actress has revealed that she is open to appearing in a rival soap in a ‘more glam’ role.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I’d definitely like to play somebody different from Bernie. Maybe someone glam or maybe someone, I don’t know, rock, emo, chick. But yeah, something completely different would be great.”

Clair added: “I love soap, and now that I’ve got quite a few years of experience in it, I really appreciate how it all works.

“Some people come into soap and don’t take to it… they find the pace too fast or the constant adapting to new lines a bit much.

“But for me, that’s what I love about it. It’s the best way of working, in my opinion. I’d definitely love to do soap again.”

When it comes to her exit itself, Clair said that it was ‘upsetting’ as she ‘absolutely loved being in the show’.

“They gave me the opportunity to learn on the job and also now I am able to take that onto other things that I do.

“Of course, it’s sad but at the same time, it felt like a natural end, with the Taylors being gone, it kind of felt right. I’m now very excited about the future,” she teased.
