Y&R Exclusive: Jason Thompson on Billy and Sally’s Future: ‘It’s an Up-and-Down Thing’

Billy and Sally have made a pretty good team on Young and Restless, but it may not actually be Cane’s outside force that drives them apart in the end. Sure, Ashby ruined the launch party for Abbott Communications, but it’s Billy himself who could find himself shattering his relationship with Sally as he tries to keep too many plates spinning in the air at once.
Shifting Priorities
Billy gave Abbott Communications to Sally to run so that he could focus on getting Chancellor back, but of course, making all that work was always going to be easier said than done. “I think that ultimately, he believes that he can do both,” Jason Thompson (Billy) tells Soap Opera Digest. “That’s probably Billy’s biggest crutch, but also his superpower, that he believes that he’s capable of doing everything at once. And I think that he is, in a lot of ways, his biggest enemy because he, at times, takes on too much and loses his focus. That’s just kind of who he is, to a certain extent.”
Mixing business with pleasure is always a tricky proposition, but Billy and Sally might have been able to make it work… if Cane wasn’t constantly complicating things by leading Billy down another path. “I think he really does believe in Sally,” the actor says. “And I think that he really does love Sally. But I am not sure that there’s any relationship in his life right now that is more important than what he has his eyes set on, and that’s getting back Chancellor and ultimately knocking over Victor. So we’ll see how that plays out.
“There’s so many moving parts in this,” Thompson adds. “He’s got his relationship with Jack, and there’s funding from Jack, and then there’s his relationship with Sally personally, and then her trying to launch the company at the same time. So there are so many moving parts. But I think that he really does want to do right by Sally. But knowing how this plays out, it is an up-and-down thing. There are a lot of questions there on what is most important to Billy.”
Sally Spectra doesn’t suffer fools lightly, even when she herself might feel like the fool. So if she starts to feel like she’s coming second best with Billy, she won’t be shy about letting him know! “Yeah,” Thompson agrees. “And she’s going to probably ask herself the question, too, ‘Why do I always end up with these guys that can’t really follow through or don’t put me first?’ And I think that’s a good question for her to ask.”
